Put away thoughts of getting anything else done, because these final two days are going to be all about your move. Very few of us will have all of the packing, cleaning, etc., done and be able to sit back and rest on our laurels.
And it’s not just packing and cleaning, either. There are still several very important items you need to take care of before you slam that moving van door for the last time.
Check with the utility companies at your old residence as well as at your new one, to confirm that you won’t be charged for any usage that’s not yours, and that you’ll have access to all of the services that you need in plenty of time.
All of your important papers should be in a safe but accessible place. It’s a good idea to make copies of tax records, wills, and any other essential documents and store them in a safety deposit box or other secure location.
Your refrigerator and freezer are going to need a thorough cleaning before you move them. Toss out any food you won’t be able to eat before you leave, and set some open baking soda containers inside to prevent odors from forming.
Try to host a final gathering for neighbors and friends. They’ll appreciate the chance to say goodbye to you, and if you serve takeout food or set up a simple buffet, the work involved will be manageable. You might even be able to use up all the leftovers in your fridge!
The final two days before your move aren’t going to a relaxing time, that’s for sure, but they don’t have to make you miserable, either. Spend a little time preparing yourself for what needs to be done, and keep in mind that it will all be over soon!
