A lot of people say studying is the hardest part of being a student. Exams and quizzes are a lot for students to handle. The more exams a student take the more it will be hard for students to pass. This is where studying habits differ from student to student. All it takes is diligence and the right attitude towards studying that makes a good student. Here is how you can study effectively and efficiently.
Always study when you are at your sharpest time of the day. If you are a morning person then study in the morning when you wake up or at least have had your breakfast. If you are able to concentrate more during mid-day then do study during the mid-day.
To effectively study, you need to be able to effectively take down notes. Take down notes using your own words so that you will not have problems understanding the terms. Make each and every note short and precise. Organize everything so that you will not have to jump from one concept to another.
Take all distractions away from your sight when you are studying. Even a single item like a colorful pen can distract you from your learning. Make sure that everything “fun” and “distracting” is out of your league when you begin your study hour.
Take 10-15 minutes break every two hours when you are studying. This will help free up your brain from the information you load up to it. The more you do this the more you will be able to sustain enough energy too. Be sure to regulate your breaks though and not abuse it to do something else. Simply close your eyes or take a walk outside to grab some snack.
The best time to study and review is right after each discussion since everything will be fresh in your mind to start with. Review your notes and see what you have learned from that class at the very moment it was taking place. You can then ask your teacher or professor for some clarifications. If you have classmates who have the same technique as you have, you can brainstorm and have a discussion yourselves.
Discuss each subject matter to yourself as if you are reporting to your professor. The more you utter the words that you need to study, the more the mind will be able to get a good grasp at it.
Rest is essential when you are studying because if you do not get it, you will not be fully aware when learning. When your mind does not have enough rest, it will try to compensate and you will end up sleepy the next day which takes out your concentration and attention levels.
