How To Dance Men – Top Tips To Survive The Dance FloorFebruary 9, 2019
It’s no secret that the thought of having a bit of a dance has seen many a grown man running for the hills. In fact, trying to entice a some men onto the dance floor is often met with the same response you’d get if you’d just asked him to stroll down a busy street wearing nothing but a Borat-style mankini thong.
That’s a real shame (not the mankini!), as the dance floor is usually the part of the room where the most fun is going on. “But you haven’t seen the way I dance!” I hear you cry. And you may have a good point. However, a little bit of effort and know-how can dramatically improve your technique.
So here are a few pointers you can try:
Keep your head up. Don’t fall in to the trap of staring at your feet all the time. Looking at the ground makes you look submissive and awkward, which will make you stand out like a sore thumb
Relax. Avoid the temptation to keep looking around the room to check if anybody is scrutinizing your movements. Focus on the person you’re dancing with, and just try to relax and lose yourself in the beat.
Have fun. Dancing is as much about your attitude as it is your moves, so drop that poker face when you’re on the floor. Smile and acknowledge others and you’ll begin to feel like one of the crowd.
Mix it up. Doing the same steps over and over again can get tedious, so add a bit of variety to your moves. There’s no need for anything fancy or outlandish. Just keep it subtle. Simple actions such as throwing in some hand movements and employing the odd turn can help break it up a bit.
Record yourself. Grab your camcorder (phone camera, web cam) and film yourself. This will give you an idea of how your dancing looks. You could watch yourself in a mirror, but you might find yourself concentrating more on what move to do next. Watching yourself on playback will give you a more of an objective view.
Get practising. Like most things in life, the more you practice something, the better you get doing it. You can practice on your own, or preferably with a partner. Why not take some dance lessons. Hey, you might even enjoy it!
So there you go. Try out these tips and see how you get on. Just remember, you don’t have to be a world-class dancer to enjoy dancing.
